Non-UL Listed SafesThe safes listed in this section fit within the huge gap between the UL TL-30x6 and UL TRTL-30x6 performance levels. The majority of them were manufactured outside of the USA. It is our opinion that, unless otherwise noted, safes within this category offer superior security to the UL TL-30x6 security level. The type, thickness and combination of the barrier materials incorporated as well as the sophistication of their boltwork/locking mechanisms, indicates how secure the particular safe is and where it fits, in our opinion, between the two UL performance levels. We will try to elaborate on this in the "product description" area of the various reconditioned safes we offer. A brief history about how these safes found their way here....... There are many safes that have been sold in the USA that were manufactured overseas, where UL was not a factor and did not play a role. During the 1970s and 1980s many of these safes entered the USA marketplace, predominantly for sale in the following industries, where high values were being stored overnight on the premises: diamond, jewelry, precious metals, check cashing, etc. The reason they entered the market here is due to the fact that it wasn't until late in the 1970s that UL established a high security safe performance test, so there weren't any UL listed high security safes to fulfill the needs of the local marketplace. The reason these safes were manufactured to such high security standards overseas was because insurance companies and the Some of the safes have certifications from testing laboratories from their own countries or regions. Since the performance tests they surpassed were different than those conducted at UL, we had to evaluate their security levels in order to assist the insurance underwriters and surveyors in the USA when covering values stored inside such products. Some of the safes do not have a listing from any testing laboratory. Many of these models came from countries where they were evaluated by insurance engineers and underwriters through the analysis of the barrier materials used in the safes. Some analysis was based on demonstrations conducted by the various manufacturers. Obviously, many of these demonstrations were not completely objective! For safe dealers in the USA, it was difficult (at the beginning) to fully understand the security levels of many of these safes, especially since we did not have familiarity with such products and there was no high security testing going on in the USA at the time. To say the least, we were most impressionable at that time, and were therefore a bit "out of our league" when it came to making a thorough and objetive analysis. It was through speaking with safe manufacturers and insurance companies from overseas that we began to form opinions of the various qualities of safes that were being offered in the USA. Personally, through continued questioning and challenging of these groups, along with first hand experience of observing performance tests on many of the barrier materials used in the majority of safes, I was able to form what I believed to be "qualified opinions". In addition, witnessing the results of many successful and unsuccessful burglaries during the late 1970s through the early 1990s gave us more proof of the protection levels offered by the various safes we were promoting. My personal decision, early on, to understand exactly what I was selling to a customer has given me the confidence to help insurance companies select appropriate products for their clients, especially when one or more of our Non-UL listed products provided more than adequate protection for the particular application. The reason so many of these products fill the needs of many clients today is because there is a huge gap in the current selection of UL certifications. The gap between the security offered by products with the UL TL-30x6 tool resistant listing and those with the UL TRTL-15x6 torch and tool resistant listing is enormous. And since the UL TRTL-15x6 safes are so close in security (and especially cost) to the higher level UL TRTL-30x6 torch and tool resistant safes, there are virtually no off-the-shelf TRTL-15x6 safes being sold today.
Please note that since many of the products come from Europe or Scandinavia the brochures and some of the photographs illustrate how they were outfitted/marketed in their home market. For example, you will see safes outfitted with one or two key locks only. For the USA market, these safes were typically outfitted with one combination lock and one key lock (or sometimes with one combination lock only). With this in mind, please do not assume that your product is a different model just because it's secured differently than what is shown in the brochure. If you have any questions regarding this or anything in particular that's not explained here, please email or call us with your question(s) and we'll do our best to provide a clear and accurate explanation. Attention Insurance Companies If your client has one or more of the un-listed products shown here (or is interested in purchasing such an item), feel free to contact us for a complete explanation of the security features offered. We will do our best to provide you with enough information so you can determine how much coverage to offer based on the security level of the product in question. Products
